Do you know about The Nappy Shoppe?
The Nappy Shoppe is a great store in Plano (and now Addison) that sells of environmentally friendly baby and parenting items. With a name like Nappy Shoppe you know they sell cloth diapers but the Nappy Shoppe also sells maternity and nursing clothing, essential oils, babywearing gear, amber necklaces, bras and bunch of other cool stuff.
Recently the Nappy Shoppe opened a boutique location at the Nest in Addison so we are thrilled to call them neighbors. (When you visit our office at the Nest we will always ask you to run downstairs and say hi to Sharni and Cheyenne too.) One day while we were drinking coffee at The Nest, I had the chance to ask the owners, Sharni and Cheyenne a few questions and I think you will enjoy their answers.
How did the Nappy Shoppe get started?
Sharni Nappy Shoppe started in my home in 2008. My newborn son was wetting through every kind of insert I tried so I bought some fabric, sewed some inserts and they worked. I realized others were having the same problem, so I sewed more and put them up on a website. Those sold. Then I decided to sell other brands of diapers and those sold too. Soon the store was taking over our house – the master bedroom was full of diaper shelves, the baby’s room with rolls of fabric. In 2010 I rented an office warehouse in Allen with open hours for people to shop. One of those shoppers was Cheyenne. After Cheyenne helped out with a carrier fitting, I offered her a job and thankfully she accepted! In 2012 Nappy Shoppe moved to it’s current location in Plano. We expanded that space twice and now we have the second location in Addison.
What is the difference between the two stores?
Sharni Plano is a far larger store. It is nearly 5000 square feet with two classrooms and a larger selection of products. Addison is a smaller store at 1100 square feet, but what makes it special is it is part of the Nest. The Nest is a collective of birth professionals. We are in the basement level at this location. While Addison does not have the product selection that Plano does, we will happily transfer product that customers request us to, to Addison.
Cheyenne It was not in our original business plan to have a second location, but when Courtney of Free to Be Chiropractic approached us and asked us to be a part of the Nest we could not resist. We are so excited to be a part of this unique and special collective of business women in the DFW area.
What is the Nappy Shoppe community?
When you are pregnant or have a new baby, having support is what it is all about. Being able to vent over third trimester heartburn or share your concerns about the contents of your new baby’s diapers is invaluable. We love that the Nappy Shoppe intentionally brings new parents together and creates a loving community.
Sharni Nappy Shoppe is more than just a store. It is a community and we love our community. We offer free classes such breastfeeding support, mothers groups etc. Customers have told us that without the shoppe they might not have succeeded in their breastfeeding journey. They’ve also told us repeatedly about the great friends they have made meeting other parents at our shoppe at the groups.
What are your favorite products at the Nappy Shoppe?
Sharni My favorite products would have to be cloth diapers. It is why I started the store in the first place. I am basically a treehugging greenie from down under, so for me every cloth diaper sold means hundreds of disposables are kept out of the landfill.
Cheyenne My favorite products would have to be all of our babywearing options. I love teaching people about all of the benefits of babywearing and how to use each one. Come in and visit if you are looking for the best sling or baby carrier, I would love to help you pick the best one for you needs!
Friendly Neighbors
As we mentioned, the Nappy Shoppe in Addison is located in our office on the bottom floor. Of course we want you to visit them when you visit us. We are also excited that the ladies at the Nappy Shoppe will be collaborating with our childbirth classes.
